Barge Dock Site
We understand that a new application for development on the Barge Dock will be coming before the Kingston Town Neighbourhood committee on 22nd January 2019. On 20th June 2018 CARA Committee sent a formal objection to the previous proposal to build 9 flats over the Barge Dock (application 18/12421). Grounds for opposition included that this development would be contrary to parts of the Council’s own Core Strategy and its draft Riverside SPD, would be on Metropolitan Open Land and in a flood plain. That application was refused. We encourage everyone interested to carefully review a new application as soon as it appears.
84 Lower Ham Road (Application 17/12947)
Apparently this application was withdrawn in January 2018, after objections from CARA and others. The application was to demolish 84 Lower Ham Road (a Victorian building, specifically identified in the designation of the area because of its architectural and heritage interest) and replace it with a 4 storey building containing 9 flats, with basement parking for 10 cars. Approximately 7 metres of the grassy bank between the building and the road was to be removed to provide vehicular access to the car-parking.
Regal cinema/Gala bingo hall
We understand there was a slight delay in taking vacant possession of a unit within the Regal bingo site, which slowed down the development. The developer has given assurances that the development is continuing. The council's Planning Enforcement team are monitoring the development to ensure that damage to the Listed Building is not caused as a result of any inactivity.
